This is a collection of poetry by a direct and highly socially conscious poet. Laurie Childree writes extensively about the working poor, love of children, and the struggles to maintain balance while working against the odds to keep one’s head above the financial water mark. She raises issues usually kept behind closed doors in the secret shame of the poor. The people she writes about love as intensely, feel as intensely, and work as diligently as any people who are financially well off. This brave debut book of work is a testament to caring, awareness, and the strong will to bring these issues to the public in artfully composed verse. I was very touched by the depth of the feelings and struggles among the lines.
